(May be played with low E string tuned to D;
if so use low D instead of fourth string most places in the tab)

NOTE: I believe I found a few more chords and reordered the words a bit,
but in general this is a rip off of the previous version.

There is a riff played along with the "B" chord in the intro and verses
that I can't, for the life of me, play so it sounds EXACTLY like the record,
but below is an attempt that sounds close.
The tab below is played in ALL the verses in the song,
as well as during the "B" chord in the chorus. Here goes:

b=bend (3b4 means bend the string at the 3rd fret to make the note that
the string would make if it was played at the 4th fret without bending.)

Here, song goes to an "A", then starts alternating between "F#"and "E",
then Liam starts singing "It's just rock and roll" and the alternation
between "F# and "E" starts getting faster, and that's the end of the song.

Parts of this transcription based on the one found in the "official" tab book for the album "(WTS)MG?".
[NOTE: The "D" chords above are only transition chords.
Play them only for a beat or two. Listen to the song to hear the rythym of it.]
[Keep playing same chords for all following verses]
[NOTE: the following section of the solo is features 2 guitars at once,
one playing the top part, the other playing the bottom part]

The original song is by Blind Willie Johnson called
"Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground".
But on the Ry Cooder album it is called "Dark Is The Night".
Blind Willie Johnsons's recording of this song has been included as one of the cuts
on the 'Sounds of Earth' record of the Voyager craft as proof of intelligent life on earth.
Whatever that means ...
